Tigers Eye Tiger's eye is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock that is yellow to red-brown with a silky luster. It is a member of the quartz group. Once considered the highest end of semi precious stones, the gems are usually cut cabochon in order to best display their chatoyancy, but beads display this unique quality as well. Tiger's Eye mostly comes from South Africa but can also be found in Arizona, South America and Mexico. The South Africa government once only allowed it to leave as finished product. Usually found in desert areas only 20% is usually high grade less than 5% of highest grade. This is mainly mined in surface deposit roots predominately found on mountain tops out cropping.
